We mournfully announce the passing of Angela Matthews, 44, of Elkhorn, Ne, who passed away on February 3rd an extensive battle with Gastroesophageal junction cancer with liver metastasis.
Angela was born on November 27, 1979, to David and June Paik in Omaha, NE. After graduating from Millard North High School in 1998, she went on to pursue her dream of taking care of people and studied nursing at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a full-ride scholarship.
Angela was a force to be reckoned with, graduating with the highest distinction from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2003. After graduation, she was passionate about volunteering at Children’s Hospital every Friday. She worked in the Oncology Unit at UNMC for 12 years, then moved on to Pediatrics at the Women’s Clinic for 5 years, followed by Cancer research at Methodist for a brief period of time and ended her career in Oncology at Methodist Hospital.
In her free time, Angela enjoyed spending time with her family. In 2014, she met her husband Jeff, and fell in love immediately. They were married in 2016 and went on to have three kids whom she loved more than anything, Jaxson Jeffrey (6), Luke David (†), and Knox Jacob (2).
Angela was preceded in death by her son Luke David Matthews; grandparents Rudolph and Jean Paik, Donald and Kathe Thrasher, Donald and Shirley Matthews, Clemence and Betty Karl; uncles James Karl, Jeffrey Karl, Robert Paik, Donald Paik, Dennis Dickinson, Jeffrey Rozanc, Rusty Thrasher; aunts Joyce Karl, Sallie Spath; cousin Karen Rozanc.
She is survived by her husband Jeffrey Matthews, sons Jaxson and Knox Matthews, parents David and June Paik, Marcia Thrasher, Kem and Lori Matthews; brother Eric Paik; sisters Jaime (Vatan) Safary, Tracy (Jeff) Lutzow; aunts Carol Dickinson, Jan (Bret) Matthews, Brenda Zebley, Sherry Thrasher; nieces Alexandra and Scarlett Safary, Ella and Ayda Borden, Alyssa Lutzow; nephew Andrew Lutzow; cousin Jennifer Mann, Marnie (RJ) Dellutri and baby girl, Matthew (Claire) Dickinson; several cousins.
We would love to honor Angela by having attendees wear her favorite color pink.
