Anita Miller was born in English, Indiana and grew up there, graduating from High School. She then took a job in Indianapolis with the phone company. In 1943, at the foot of the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial, she met David Newell who was in training with the US Army Air Force. They quickly realized they were meant for one another. David was sent to Avon Park, FL, where he had orders to “ship out” with his B-17 group to Europe. She followed him there, where they were married on March 6, 1944. David’s orders were changed, and they remained at Avon Park. After discharge, Anita and David went to Indiana where they began their family as David finished school. Edward and David (Dave), twins, were born in 1952. Anita took on the rewarding task of caring for two boys, with great assistance from David. Following David’s graduation from Indiana University, a move was made, taking the family to Alamogordo, New Mexico where David was a high school teacher. Anita, with her business school degree, joined the school system as secretary of the high school guidance office. It was there in Alamogordo where Anita believed that Jesus is her Savior and Lord. Sometime later David also turned his life over to Jesus, accepting the gift of God for life in Jesus. Together they served others through Bethel Baptist Church, impacting the lives of many. In 2009, when David passed away, Anita, with her determination and tenacity, picked up the tasks of maintaining the home and continued to care for others. In 2015 she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, to be closer to her son Dave and to get the care she needed due to physical decline. Though she was physically limited, she remained sharp mentally continuing as a steadfast representative of Jesus and remaining faithful and reliant on His care up to her passing. Anita was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and servant of God.
Anita was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, David F. Newell; her son Edward F. Newell, her parents, two brothers and two sisters, and her grandson, Nathaniel Newell.
She is survived by her son David F. Newell (and Bonita); Edward’s wife, Jo, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
