Benjamin L. E. Lunn

October 2, 1992 — April 14, 2019

Benjamin Lunn, 26, formerly of Forest Lake MN, was found dead April 14, 2019 at his LaVista NE apartment. He attended Forest Lake Senior High School, where he was an avid member of the band program, graduating in 2011. After receiving his diploma he continued his music education in Percussion Performance at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, transferring to the University of South Dakota-Vermillion in 2013.

Ben developed his love of ensemble performance as a member of Washington County 4-H, participating in both County Arts In and State Arts In. Throughout his life, Ben was a member of the Minnesota marching arts community. His contributions, as a performer, helped earn a World Class gold medal in 2011 for Minnesota Brass Inc and a silver medal in 2012 for Minnesota Brass Indoor. A talented and versatile percussionist, who also played in jazz bands and orchestras across the Midwest during his undergraduate career.

Ben was exceptionally kind and always wanted to talk about drums. In addition to his performance acumen Ben was a beloved and sought after educator within the communities of South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin and leaves behind a legacy of friends, students, and mentors who thank him for his contributions to their successes, in music, and in life.

Like so many young musicians, Ben held a day job. In Forest Lake he was a member of the Home Depot MET team. In Nebraska, Ben became a member of the Receiving team at SalonCentric, LaVista, where he is remembered for consistently demonstrating a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Ben was a highly-respected co-worker and friend to several employees in his department. His dedication to the team and his potential to take on more responsibility was recognized in January 2019 when Ben was selected for a new role as the Safety and Cleanliness Champion for his department. He led his team to ensure they created a safe and clean work environment each day, and his natural leadership skills came through in the respect his teammates had for him as he served in this capacity.Ben's kindness, warmth and genuine caring for others will be missed by everyone at SalonCentric who knew him.

Benjamin is survived by his parents David Lunn and Susan Edseth of Forest Lake, and his lost love, Dani Portz of Omaha. Missing their head scritchies are Jan, Kiara, Bean and Salem. Ben is lovingly remembered by his lifelong pals, Zach Johnson and Jake Matheson, and marching brother, Andrew Riley, as well as mentors, Anthony Bloch and Nate Wright. Plus, a list of family, friends, and musicians too numerous to list.

There will be a memorial honoring Benjamin at Forest Lake High School on Sunday, May 19 from 1:00-3:00PM where a performance from friends and a reception following will be held. The family is asking friends to share in a celebration of Ben's life and memory by listening to some music and sharing stories of their wonderful son.

The family asks that you consider a memorial contribution in support of Ben's passion for Percussion Performance in music activities and education. Donations may be made online at https://www.gofundme.com/benjamin-lunn-memorial.
