Carolyn Rose Macrander

July 25, 1935 — July 22, 2017

Carolyn Rose Macrander was born on July 25, 1935. She was the daughter of Paul and Martha Opocensky. Carolyn graduated from South High School in Omaha in 1953. She attended Nebraska Methodist School of Nursing.Carolyn married Ray Macrander on August 12, 1956 while he was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base.

Carolyn was a nurse at Mutual of Omaha. She worked at numerous hospitals in Omaha, Iowa City and in Clarinda. She was a school nurse in College Springs, IA. Carolyn taught nursing for eight years at Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda. She was very active volunteering at Clarinda First United Methodist Church and for a time taught Sunday School. She enrolled in Toastmasters Class at Iowa Western College during her retirement.Carolyn had taken art classes and many of her beautiful paintings are now enjoyed in their home and in homes of loved ones. Carolyn and Ray spent summer months at their cottage near United Methodist Camp on West Lake Okoboji.

During the past several years, Carolyn's health deteriorated and she had to spend considerable time visiting various hospitals. She recently required mobility assistance. After some time at her most recent hospital visit, it was determined that Carolyn needed to be moved to hospice.

Those that have gone before her were her grandparents, mother and father and aunt and uncle. Those remaining are her husband Ray, son Michael and wife Jane of Bellevue, NE, son Matthew and Kathy of Spring Hill, TN, and brother Paul and wife Marilyn Opocensky of Bellevue, NE.
