Dak Jikany Guot, or Dak Nyatora Yiel kalam was born on August 8, 1972 in South Sudan. He lived in a refugee camp before coming to the United States in August 1995 at the age of 23. Dak brought with him some primary education skills he pursued while in Dimma Refugee Camp in Ethiopia. From there he went to IFO Refugee Camp in Kenya which soon provided an opportunity to come to the United States.
After settling in the United States, Dak pursued his school by going to the job corps in San Diego, CA where he completed his GED in 1998. One week after graduation from the job corps, he became sick and was rushed to an emergency room where he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor. Dak was admitted to the hospital where he remained for 6 months and all hope was lost that he would live. Because of the Will of God, Dak Jikany Guot became a cancer survivor and lived for another 21 years without any further indication of cancer.
Following his defeat of cancer, Dak met his wife Nyatut Yiek Muon and together they had 4 children.
Dak was preceded in death by his parents Nyatora Yiel and Jikany Guot who passed away when he was very young; and brother Mayian Jikany Guot.
He is survived by his wife and their children Nyajuwa, Guot, Nyariek, and Jikany.
