Darlene Marion (Aulner)

February 7, 1929 — August 8, 2024

Darlene Marion (Aulner) was born to Alta and John Aulner Sr. in their rented home on February 7th, 1929, in Sioux Fall’s South Dakota.  At the age of four she moved with her family to a farm near Estelline, South Dakota where her father became a sharecropper for the next several years. In 1940 the family relocated to Omaha, Nebraska where Darlene’s father was employed as a machinist. In 1943 the family moved to Hastings, Nebraska. There, Darlene attended Hastings High School and graduated in 1947.

After high school Darlene moved to Omaha and went to work for Mutual of Omaha. In 1950 Darlene met Lyle Marion and they were married in 1951. Darlene and Lyle shared 63 years of married life together and never had any children, but they welcomed many nieces, nephews and children of dear friends to their home over the years. Together Dalene and Lyle built a machine shop business and raised Appaloosa horses on their acreage.

Lyle died in 2014 and Darlene moved from their acreage and into an assisted living retirement center in 2019.

Darlene Marion was reunited in heaven with her husband Lyle on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the age of 95 years.
