Darrel "Bill" Goff

Darrel "Bill" served his country forthirty-seven years. He served a total of twenty-eight years in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller (Senior Master Sargent). He then served nine years with U.S. Customs and Border Protection as an Air Traffic Controller assisting with drug control at the Miami International Airport.

Bill enlisted on June 13, 1957 in Benson, Minnesota. He went through training at the La Quinta Air Force Base in Lackland, Texas. In July of 1957 he attended air traffic control training at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. After completing training, he was stationed at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, South Dakota in March of 1958. He then moved to Ingelwood, California in May of 1959 where he was stationed at the LA Air Traffic Control Center. In March of 1960, he was placed at the Bunker Hill AFB in Indiana. In September of 1961 Bill moved to Greenland where he was stationed at Thule AFB. In October of 1962 he moved to Germany where was stationed at Spangdahlem AFB. Bill returned to the states in July of 1964, where he was stationed in Duluth, Minnesota.

On August 28, 1965 Bill married Marie Davis. In October he left the military and the newlyweds moved to Benson where their son Rick was born on February 13, 1966. He reenlisted in December of that year, where he was then stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. On March 14, 1967 his second son Dan was born. Then, in March of 1969 he was temporarily stationed at the AFB in Taiwan for about 6 months. His third son Brad was bornin Benson on July 9, 1969. That summer he returned to the Air Force base in Duluth, Minnesota. On August 18, 1970, his first daughter Kayleen was born and on August 30, 1972 his youngest daughter Shara was born.
From 1973-1974 Bill was stationed in Thailand. Then, in December of 1974 he was stationed at Williams AFB in Phoenix, AZ. While there, he received the Meritorious Award for Community Service. He remained in Phoenix until October of 1980 when he was moved to Offutt AFB in Omaha. He was temporarily stationed in Guam in 1985, before he retired on August 30, 1986 after 28 years of service.

Bill joined the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Miami, Florida in August of 1987. He was assigned temporary duty in Puerto Rico in October of 1989 for 2 weeks and then went regularly until the last tour (December, 1991-January, 1992). After 9 years, he retired in June of 1996.

Darrel is preceded in death by his parents Darrel Donald Goff and Mary Winifred McGowan Goff, his infant brother, and his son Brad Goff. He is survived by his sons Richard (Jeanette) Goff, and Daniel (Nanette) Goff; daughters Kayleen (Bill) Casey, and Shara Goff; brothers Jerome (Jean) Goff, James (Ione) Goff, Daniel Goff, and Timothy Goff; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
