Deacon Richard J. Jizba

Deacon Richard Jaroslav Jizba of Omaha passed away Monday, July 8, 2019 at the age of 61.Richard was born December 6, 1957 in Omaha to Lois Barber Jizba and Jaro Z. Jizba who preceded him in death, as did brother Gregory Marc Jizba in 2017. He was a loving and beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. A fine musician, Richard first played cello and later recorders. With wife Janet he enjoyed ballroom dancing, walking, bicycling, camping, mountain trail hiking, and cooking. He made homemade gifts of dried herbs, hand made soaps and carpentry projects.

Richard was a 1976 Burke High School Graduate. He earned a BA in Zoology from the University of Washington, Seattle; an MS in Biology from Creighton; and a Library Science Masters from Indiana University, Bloomington. He had 30 credits in graduate theology from Creighton. Richard first worked University of Nebraska-Lincoln's agriculture campus. For over 30 years Richard was a Creighton Health Sciences Librarian. Recently he was Head, Digital Repository and Publishing Services at the Health Sciences Library, serving as liaison to several campus departments. and published several academic articles.

For St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church he wrote and delivered thoughtful, loving homilies since 2005 when he was ordained as a Deacon. Richard is survived by his wife, Janet L. Adams Jizba; daughter Ann M. & (Mike) Cavanaugh; sons Peter D. (Rebecca) Jizba and Nicholas J. Jizba; and four grandchildren all of Omaha. Also surviving him are brother Thomas D. (Teri) Jizba, of Bennington; sister Laurel Jizba Kesler(Thomas) of West Lafayette, IN.; sister Elaine Henzler (Richard) of Adirondack, NY; mother-in-law Mary Gehl Adams, father-in-law John Q. Adams both of Bainbridge, Island, WA; uncle Zdenek Jizba of La Habra, California; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
