Debbie was born in DeLand, Florida in 1964 to Robert and Ann Eccles. She was the youngest of five and the only daughter; survived by brothers Tim, Steve, Ron and Pat. Debbie grew up in Ralston, Nebraska and was a proud Cornhusker and Ralstonite. Growing up Debbie loved singing in the choir, she was an almost fanatical music lover. She enjoyed an eclectic range of music from musicals to pop and rock.
She graduated from Ralston High School in 1982 and joined the workforce taking a production job at Malnove where she met John Brazeal. In 1983 she and John married and over the course of their marriage welcomed three children: Elise, Melanie “Rosie” and John Jr.
Debbie was a playful and fun mother, always seeking out new adventures for her and her children. She lived for the holidays. The annual 4th of July parade and fireworks in Ralston were traditions Debbie never missed. She always made Halloween special and would take the kids trick or treating around their home near Hanscom Park. Her talent for cooking truly shined on Thanksgiving as she always looked forward to providing a full spread.
Debbie, a true foodie, loved to try new things whenever she got the chance. She looked for any opportunity to cook for people, sometimes to a fault. She wanted to cater every event, however impractical it was for her to do so and always said “Can I bring just one dish?” and “How many sides will there be?” In her mind there was no such thing as too many side dishes- she loved to feed an army.
Debbie was an extremely hard worker. She never shyed away from physical labor and was confident that she could work alongside any man. She loved doing DIY projects and tending to her yard and garden. For years she worked for Fleetwood Travel Trailers, building motor homes and RVs. She was incredibly happy during her time there and made many, many friends. Her weekends were spent entertaining said friends as her home was always a place of festivity, long chats over drinks and delicious meals.
She will be remembered and missed for her big personality, her infectious laugh, her free spirited nature, her generosity and last but certainly not least, her love for animals but especially her adoration for her dog George.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Those who knew Debbie could attest that she was so proud of Bob, especially during his term as Mayor of Ralston. Ann was Debbie’s biggest supporter and her passing was very hard on her. Despite any adversity she was facing, Debbie always kept her strong faith in God and was outspoken about her belief that she would join her mother in the afterlife. Although she will be greatly missed, her family takes comfort in the idea that Debbie and Ann are finally reunited in heaven.
