Dolores Marie Somer

Dolores (Dee) was born in Burr, Nebraska on August 13, 1931 to Carl and Grace Wittstock.  She grew up in Cook, Nebraska, graduated from Cook High School in 1949, and attended Peru State Teachers College. She taught in the Cook area for two years before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked for Civil Service. She met Edwin in Lincoln, and they were married on May 2, 1959, at Sheridan Lutheran Church. Together, they raised four children—Dale, Darrel, Cindy, and Rick—in Papillion, Nebraska.Dee was actively involved in various roles such as a Sunday School teacher, den mother, Brownie leader, softball coach, Avon lady, and band parent. While she cherished raising her four children, she found extended joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dee had a knack for keeping up with everyone's activities, and while her phone calls were brief, she always remembered what everyone was up to. Her infectious smile could light up a room, and she was always up for a good party.

Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, gardening, sewing, and embroidery. She was a talented baker, specializing in family favorites such as No-no doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, applesauce cookies, pecan tassies, and frosted brownies. Many in the family have fond and humorous memories of her sewing projects.After retiring, Edwin and Dee embarked on numerous overseas and domestic trips. They spent 20 years enjoying activities such as fishing, camping, and golfing together. They especially looked forward to wintering in St. George, Utah, with stops in Colorado to spend time with their grandchildren. Dee also liked playing (or paying) the slots in Iowa, solving jigsaw puzzles, and she was always up for a fierce game of Farkle or Chicken Foot.

Dolores was preceded in death by her loving husband Edwin G. Somer; parents Carl and Grace Wittstock; siblings Donald (Marjorie) Wittstock, Darrel Wittstock, Arlo (Delores) Wittstock, Lavina (Dale) Schlueter; great grandson Arthur Adams.

She is survived by her children Darrel (Heidi) Somer, Dale (Christa) Somer, Cindy (Kevin) Larsen, Rick (Kimberly) Somer; grandchildren Erin, Emily, Annie, Joe, Jordan, Claire, Madalyn, Nicola, Kirstin, Carson, Elizabeth, Sierra; great grandchildren Lily, Olivia, Ernest and Paul; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
