Sonny (he hated his given name of Emil) was born May 3, 1944 in Omaha. He had fond memories of childhood when the family would go to Cedar Creek to a cabin there where he would fish. He loved the outdoors. He even had a pet raccoon when he was young, until it grew to be mean and had to let it go. He hunted with his buddies and cousins for pheasants and quail and later hunted deer with a bow and arrow.
At one time he maintained a huge garden of various vegetables. Like all men, he loved watching football. He married Sheryl on July 24, 1971 and they had 3 children, Brian, Christine and Mark. When the children were growing up he wanted them to have a love of the outdoors too so he took them fishing and camping. He was a good father and provider and a wonderful husband. He was the salt of the earth and didn't think that having worldly possessions would make you happy. He instead was in tune with nature.
He hunted when he was younger and in good health, but just fished when his health started to deteriorate. That too was taken from him when his health got even worse. Time and again, he proved doctors wrong when they said he didn't have much time left to live. His quality of life dwindled the last few years and he finally succumbed to all his infirmities on June 23, 2018.
The world did not know him, but he meant the world to us.
