Helen M. Schlensig, daughter of Jozef and Mary Madej, immigrated to the United States after being displaced by the German occupation of Poland. The Madej's were well to-do farming families that lost their land at the beginning of World War II, leaving their land taken and Jozef, his wife, and their children being inducted into a forced labor battalion by the Germans.
After they were liberated from German occupation, Josef applied for his family to come to the United States under the Displaced Persons Act and the family arrived May 24, 1951 to New York City.
Helen passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 in Owassa, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years. She was born Tuesday, February 1, 1944 in Germany.
