Herbert William Winfrey was born on July 25, 1919, in Lobanon, Missouri to Ella Jane Arnold and William Asa Winfrey.

Herbert and his family moved to a farm near Wolbach, Nebraska when he was 5 months old. He was the youngest of 9 children.

At 21 years old, Herb joined the army as WWII broke out. He traveled all over Belgium, Holland, and Germany. On D-Day, he was in Normandy with the 79th Legion. He fought two years in the infantry and reached the rank of Sergeant for three and a half years. He received a Purple Heart for his service.

Herb returned home after the service and worked in an ammunition plant from 1946 to 1973. He married Marguerite Grein on September 7, 1958 in Grand Island, Nebraska and the couple made their home there.

Herb is survived by his daughter Lisa Neu-Ramirez and her husband John of La Vista, NE; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, 6 brothers, 2 sisters; and a step-son.
