Janet Elizabeth Pennington, 64, passed away at her home in Springfield, Nebraska, on the morning of February 13, 2024. Janet was born May 7, 1959, in Omaha, Nebraska to parents Frank C. and Stella Schweiger.
Janet attended Saint Stanislaus grade school, just blocks from her home, later graduating from Archbishop Ryan High School, and attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
One of her early jobs was at Huber Chevrolet as an office clerk where she met a co-worker and future husband, L.R. (Bob) Pennington. They were married on June 19, 1982. Janet and Bob have two children; Charles and Christine. Always working various jobs to help with household expenses, she took a break to raise her young children. She later started a career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska as a claims auditor; retiring after serving over 16 years in that role.
Janet loved her community, graciously giving her time to be involved with school and church activities, and teaching CCD. She fullfilled a childhood dream of living on an acreage surrounded by dogs, cats, chickens, cows, and particularly her beloved horses; owning 8 of them over the years. The acreage was an oasis for her that included a swimming pool, providing entertainment for family and friends, and a small town break from city life.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank C. and Stella C. Schweiger.
Janet is survived by her husband of 41 years, Leslie Robert Pennington; son Charles Robert Pennington; daughter Christine Marie (Keith) Jones, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; sister Sharon (Howard) Renshaw, of Elkhorn, Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family and friends.
