James (Jim) Janda Sr. was born June 15th, 1943, to Ray and Mary (Brabec) Janda and grew up as a proud South Omaha boy with his two sisters, Mary Ann and Barb. After starting a career working for the Metropolitan Utilities District he met the love of his life, Elaine (Krchnavy) Janda from Gregory, SD, where they were married August 13th, 1966. Together they adopted and raised 4 amazing children: Jim Jr, Therese, John, and Maria. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Intercultural families, and Mid-America Woodworkers Association.
Jim worked a variety of jobs in water treatment for the MUD before retiring in 2004. He loved animals, especially lap dogs like his faithful Sammy and feeding birds. His hobbies were woodcarving, making rosaries, and reading about American western history. He especially loved carving and personalizing santas and angels and giving them away to friends and family on special occasions. Other interests include locomotives, flowers native plants, and model trains.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Mary Janda; and his sister Mary Ann Kleffner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Elaine Janda; and his children James Jr. (Amanda) Janda, Therese (Kenneth) Kephart, John Janda and Maria (David) Ruzicka; grandchildren Johnny, Stephanie and Garrett Janda, Michelle Ruzicka, Andrew Janda, David Raja Ruzicka, Siena Kephart, Malea Janda, Sarita Kephart, Shayla Kephart and Harper Janda.
