Leroy L. Ehmke

d. February 7, 2019

LeRoy Leonard Ehmke, age 72, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019.
He was born March 5, 1946 in Nebraska City, Nebraska, and grew up on a farm just
outside Syracuse, Nebraska. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby
(Wohlers) and Leonard Ehmke of Syracuse; his brother-in-law William Waynick, and
sister-in-law Marcia (Ross) Ehmke.
LeRoy is survived by his three children: John Ehmke (Christine Catlett) of Manhattan,
Kansas (and grandchildren Grace and Colton Ehmke); Gregory Ehmke of Omaha; and
Susan Bowman of Omaha (and grandchildren Ethan and Jack Bowman). He is also
survived by his sister Dianna Waynick of Springfield, Missouri, his brother Gary Ehmke
of Syracuse, and several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
After graduating from Syracuse High School in 1964, LeRoy attended Milford Trade
School at Milford, Nebraska. He then joined the US Navy and served in Vietnam.
Following his service in the Navy, he was employed by Pendleton Woolen Mills in both
Nebraska City and Bellevue, worked at the Miller Hat Factory in Corsicana, Texas; and
later at Walmart in Bellevue, until his retirement. He was a member of the American
Legion.
LeRoy was a diehard Huskers fan, and when he wasn't watching football (or the
Weather Channel), he enjoyed many years of attending toy shows and collecting toys,
especially John Deere collectibles. When he traveled, he stopped at implement
dealerships all over the US, looking for pieces to add to his collection.
