Lorna started school in Watertown and then moved with the family to Minneapolis, MN. There Lorna attended Holy Angels Academy and graduated High School in 1954. She was married to Stan Connell on June 4th 1955 in Minneapolis, MN. Lorna and Stan had three children. Michelle Nylen (Dave) - West Des Moines, IA, Tom Connell (Karen) - Marshalltown, IA, and Kathy Steinbach (Nick) - Omaha, NE. Stan worked for Red Owl Food Stores in Minneapolis and Chicago, National Tea in Chicago, and Super Valu Stores in Minneapolis till working forRandall Foods in Ames. Lorna was a stay at home mom taking care of the kids and involved herself in PTA and other things to help her kids. In 1967 Stan bought the Super Valu Store in Chariton, IA. Among Lorna�s greatest challenges was preparing meals from canned goods with no labels. She became a great cook with a little creative genius as she got all of the canned goods with missing labels from the family store. Lorna and Stan worked in the store till they broadened the business to lease The Captain�s Lounge, The Gallery, and the Castawaylocated on the town square in Chariton. Stan ran the store and Lorna ran the restaurant and lounge. Lorna also broadcast a noon radio show for KNIA Radio in Knoxville about local weather and town events in the restaurant at noon during the weekdays. They sold the store inChariton and purchased Klotz Food Market in Mapleton, IA in 1978. Stan passed away shortly after buying the store and Lorna operated the store for 10 years before selling it. She then worked for Hy-Vee Food Stores in Des Moines, West Des Moines, and Omaha. Lorna retired and resided in Omaha. She passed away July 19th after a short illness. Lorna had 7 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. Joe (Michelle) Connell, Dr. Matthew Connell, Andrew (Lisa) Connell, Tim (Kathy) Connell, Paul Nylen, Erik Nylen, Aaron (Allie) Steinbach, and AnnieSteinbach. Also 4 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter, Will, Jake, Kaitlyn, Luke, and Noah Connell. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, parents-in-law Stan Connell Sr. and Betty Amundson. Lorna leaves behind her long time partner Ervin Gustin, her children and their spouses, her grandkids and great-grandkids.VISITATION begins Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Gerald Catholic Church (96th and Q, Omaha) at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.. Lorna will be laid to rest in the Chariton Cemetery � Chariton, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials requested to the Hospice House or St. Gerald Catholic School.
