Lou Ann H. Ryan-Nordell

August 8, 1938 — January 17, 2017

age 78 years, of Ralston, Nebraska. Lou Ann was born in Rogers, Nebraska to Jacob and Helen Ritzdorf. She grew up in rural Howells, Nebraska and graduated from Howells High School in 1954. She attended St. Catherines School of Nursing and graduated in 1958. Lou Ann was an RN at St. Catherines and then later at Bergan Mercy Hospital. In 1973 she started teaching Surgery Techs and RNs at Iowa Western Community College where she taught for 32 years. Later she worked at Omaha Surgical Center. She was a tireless volunteer and member of the Ralston American Legion where she was active in the Womens Auxiliary. She enjoyed helping others and spent most of her free time doing so. Her motto was Have you helped someone today? Lou Ann loved to go dancing with Ron at several of the local hot spots and watching her grandchildrens activities. She cherished her family and friends dearly and could always come up with a reason for a get together.Lou Ann was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Helen Ritzdorf; first husband Jerry Ryan; daughter Jackie Ryan; stepsons Ron and Denny Nordell; brothers Leonard and Melvin Ritzdorf. Survived by loving husband Ron Nordell; sons Sean (Diane), Tim (Ronna), Terry (Peggy), Kevin (Terry), and Scott (Judi) Ryan; stepsons Robert (Clarine) and Don (Sandy) Nordell; sister Alice Rhode; brother Bob (Roselyn) Ritzdorf grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday, January 20th, after 5:00 p.m. with Vigil Service 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, January 21st, 10:30 a.m. St. Gerald Catholic Church (96th and Q St). Interment 2:00 p.m. St. Bridget CemeteryHoney Creek, IA. Memorials requested to the Siena/Francis House or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
