Margaret R. Vontersch

August 13, 1922 — September 22, 2020

Marge, affectionately known as Maggie or VT,loved spending time with her family, her siblings and their spouses. Louis and Violet(Vi), Walt and Rose, Marie and Clarence Stillmock, Leo and Lary, Ted and Geri, Frank and Vivian (Viv), Emily (Midge) and John Onik, Lucy and John Staroska, Joe and Shirley, Johnny and Marion and Kay and Ted Madej. And her husband's family, Dixie and Merle Honeywell,Helen and Peewee Norman, Margie and Bubby (Ed) Jones and Patsy and Bob Esbeck.

Marge and Vern shared a deep, affectionate love for one another, they loved to dance, enjoyed entertaining and were passionate about their Huskers. Spending most Saturdays in Lincoln or whatever stadium the team was playing in that weekend - from Iowa toHawaii, with Johnny and Marion.

Marge was no stranger to hard work - she held a job from 16 until she retired from the bank at 62.She worked with a lively group who pulled hilarious pranks on each other and have kept in touch over the last 35 years.

Food was a form of love for Maggie, you never left her house hungry, thirstyor empty handed. She was a marvelous cook and we all agree, no matter how hard we try or how many times she showed us,no one comes close to granny's cooking.Even as she aged, She always attempted to bake one of her highly-requested pies to share.

She was a generous soul. She would bake a banana bread, a birthday cake or a batch of Polish penicillin aka chicken noodle soup, to heal what ailed you. When she was able, sheloved to pick up her good friends for church and take her sisters to the store or appointments. She always took good care of others, especially her grandkids.

She participated in several organizations including her neighborhood association, the Golden Gems, the Polish Home and many more. She was an active volunteer and member of the church she was baptized in and where she received each of the sacraments, St. Stanislaus.

She was proud of her polish heritage and passed her love of the language, traditionsand polkas to younger generations. Midnight Mass in Polish was a beloved tradition.

She adored her son, Larry, her daughter in laws, and each generation of her grandchildren. She doted on her great-grandkids and was ecstatic to welcome her first great-great grandson this June. She spoiled us with love and laughter, midnight snacks and occasionally ice cream for breakfast.

She cherished each of her nieces and nephews. She kept a pulse on the family, and was always aware of what was happening with them. She relished in the details of their lives from the time they were children until they became parents and grandparents, themselves. She shared their joys and heartaches.

A sign in her home read, "you are a stranger here but once." I think all who met Marge over the years would agree that is a true statement. Including those who so graciously cared for her as she was no longer able to care for herself. She had a way of making you feel comfortable and at home.

Thank you for celebrating a life well lived with us.
In her own words, Go Big Red, God Bless, kocham Cię, Nostrovia
Live large like Marge.
