Mary Jean Stuehm

July 11, 1930 — November 22, 2022

Mary Jean Stuehm passed away peacefully at age 92 on November 22, 2022 at Trinity Village in Papillion. She was born July 11, 1930, in Boelus, Nebraska to John and Elizabeth (McDonald) Elvers.  After a move to Omaha during the Great Depression when Mary was very young, she graduated from South High School in 1948 and began working at Packer’s National Bank in South Omaha.  She met her future husband, Leroy and they married in 1950 at Anderson Grove Presbyterian Church located in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Leroy enlisted in the Army in 1950 and they relocated to California.  They returned to Omaha after his Service ended and they initially made Benson their home as it was close to the business (SOS Heating and Cooling) where Leroy worked and would eventually own. They then settled in the Ralston area for the rest of their lives.

Mary was active in her community, volunteering with the Karen Western PTA and as a leader for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She also volunteered at Seymour Elementary School and Midlands Hospital.  Her church activities involved being a member of a Circle and Altar Guild at St. Mathews Church and later at Messiah Lutheran Church.  Most important to her was her family.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary enjoyed golfing, traveling, and cooking.  She was able to play at golf courses locally and around the country.  Her travels took her to Hawaii, Minnesota, New York, Ireland, and Spain to name a few.  Many of these trips were taken accompanied by friends or to visit relatives.  The meals and celebrations she prepared for family are too many to count, but we will miss her cookies, cakes and brownies.

Mary’s sharp wit combined with her ability to laugh have kept her strong these last years while dealing with Parkinson’s Disease and the effects of a stroke. Family was always first and foremost in Mary’s thoughts. Her strength, faith and compassion will be missed.

Mary was preceded in death by husband Leroy, son Rodney and grandson David Melvin Jr., brothers John and Paul Elvers and sister Elizabeth Beers. She is survived by daughter Pamela Melvin (Dave), 3 grandchildren: Jon Stuehm (Lindsay), Jennifer Sintek, Geoff Melvin; 4 great grandchildren: Ty and Camden Sintek; Cash and Presley Stuehm.
