Mauricette L. Albin

December 5, 1926 — December 21, 2021

Mother was raised with 13 brothers and sisters. Mother grew up in Le Mans, France; the only one that came to America and the last one to pass away. Mom's parents ran a boutique hotel and were successful until the war and all of her siblings shared beds, clothes, and shoes to go to school. Mother saw a lot of killing during the war, her family was in a concentration camp for part of the war.

Once the war took away their source of income, her mother turned to alcohol, her father helped save a bridge from being blown up he also helped the Americans so that they could cross that bridge. He earned a medal for saving that bridge, they also named it after him.

Mother learned how to sell flowers and to be a milliner, she made hats and purses, she learned how to sew and was very talented at knitting and crocheting. Mother had a dream to go to New York and make and design dresses.

While in America in 1960, her parents passed away. With no way of getting back for them she felt trapped and that has always haunted her until her dying day; she now has reunited with them.

Mother was a war bride and had many dreams once reaching America that did not happen for her. She sacrificed for us kids working in several menial jobs. While living in St. Paul, Minnesota she worked for 3M, which she enjoyed. Then moving to Council Bluffs, Iowa and applying at Western Electric downtown Omaha, she received the job offer and moved up the ranks. Western Electric moved out to West Omaha and we moved as well. Mother worked herself up and was trained to be a welder. She worked endless hours overtime which sacrificed time at home. She missed out on school plays because she working nights earned her more money. However, once home she was the best cook and baker.

Mom was a wonderful mother while I was young. Sorry to say I was a difficult teenager that she had no control of; I gave her a lot of grief.

Mom loved to go camping which was a lot of work. Some hobbies she loved were dancing, fishing, gardening, swimming, and bowling; she bowled a 300 and could always whip my dad.

Throughout the years mother was very hands on with helping any family that needed it. She helped paint our living room and even put up a swimming pool when she lived in South Bend, Nebraska.

Mother has 34 great-grandchildren from 8 grandchildren and 2 kids. She loved every one of them. However, mother was very stubborn and somewhat controlling which got her into trouble. I want to say that was the French blood that made her that way and the life she had to endure along the way.

When they retired in South Dakota on the lake, she volunteered at the local nursing home and hospital. Mother and Father were members of the VFW and were involved in parades and carrying flags.

After Father passed away in 2003, she remarried in 2005 to a wonderful man; he swept her off her feet. He was retired from Western Electric and was a wonderful man; generous in love and very passionate about mother. They would go camping, fishing, and dancing. They had a wonderful back yard full of flowers. They learned and taught one another about flowers. They went to a lot of functions together. For 10 years, he treated her like a princess which she deserved because my father was not the best to her.

Albert passed away in 2014 and mother became very lonely. I would take her to see graves on Sundays and have lunch; she loved steak from Applebee's.

Mom loved to watch the birds in the back yard and work in her garden until she could no longer be as mobile as she once was. She fractured her back from several falls over the years and her artificial hip and knees were giving her issues, too.

This past summer her dog Lucy passed away and that took an emotional toll on her.

Mother had many friends from Western Electric that have since passed. She still has a few that she stayed in touch with. Mom's favorite TV shows were "Deal or No Deal", crime shows, 90 Day Fiance, and The Wheel. The only sport she liked was ice skating competition and little league baseball.

Mom had great neighbors that kept an eye on her as well: always there when she called.

My family wants to thank everyone that knew my mom and cared about her, even though she had some difficult moments.
