Monica was born in Mapleton, Iowa on January 7, 1918 to Nicholas and Anna Flammang.She married Vernon Sasges on June 2, 1940.To that union 6 children were born.Vernon died December 2,1976.On May 16, 1981, Monica married Erwin Smith.Erwin died on April 6, 1999.Monica loved to garden, crochet and embroider.When she was 88 years old, she embroidered a quilt showing the birds of all 50 states for each of her children.One of her quilts won grand champion first prize at the Colorado State Fair.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon Sasges, second husband Erwin Smith, daughter Roseland Kennedy, 2 brothers Matthew Flammang and Edgar Flammang, and 4 sisters, Elizabeth Uhl, Theresa Sachau, Rita Ferdig, and Colletta Flammang, daughter in law Doris Sasges and son in law David Kennedy.She is survived by brother Jerome Flammang, sister Mary Gormally, and 5 children, Richard Sasges of Overton Nevada, Patricia Moore of Crete Nebraska, Colleen Marley of Omaha Nebraska, Sheryl Moyers of Mt Juliet Tennessee, Wayne Sasges of Grand Island Nebraska, 13 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren.
