Nancy would always say when asked how she was, I'm fat and sassy! She had unlimited talent from cooking, baking and decorating cakes, wedding cakes, designing flowers. There wasn't anything she couldn't do. On their 5 acre home in Sarpy County, she had a huge garden for many years, beautiful flowers, blue bird houses surrounding the perimeter. She enjoyed watching birds and specifically the hummingbirds from her kitchen table and the amazing waterfall Don built in their backyard. It was truly a place of beauty. Her and Don took great pride in what they had built over the years. They provided a great opportunity for their kids to enjoy 4-H, raising pigs, sheep, cattle, chickens, bunnies. Nancy would bring in sick animals right in front of their fire place when it was cold and nurse them back to health. It was not uncommon to have a baby calf in their front entryway, chickens kept warm by the fireplace and puppies born in the garage.

Nancy blessed many nieces, nephews, friends with beautiful and delicious wedding cakes. In her last days when they were able to visit, many of them thanked her for their amazing wedding cakes. They never forgot what she did for them.

Nancy owned Forever Yours Floral on Main Street in Springfield bringing joy to all who entered her shop. She was the talk of the town. She was active in the Nebraska Florist Society and earned Nebraska Master Florist – Nancy Smith, NFD, NMF. She was very proud of all her floral designs and was awarded many trophies lining their fireplace from competitions.
