Patricia Eileen Rooney (O'Brien)

November 10, 1943 — June 4, 2023

Patricia Eileen Rooney (O'Brien) was born on Wednesday, November 10, 1943, in San Francisco, California, and passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 79 years.

Patricia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Deacon Paul Rooney († 8-24-2020), and her parents, Ottillia “Tillie” (Fechke) and Patrick O’Brien; in-laws Patrick (Peggy) Rooney, Dr. Joe (Jean) Rooney, and John (Donna) Rooney.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Frazell and Annie (Eric) Bruner; sibling Daniel (Rose) O’Brien; her in-laws Margaret Rooney, James Rooney (Mary †), Sister Mary Kevin Rooney, and Rt. Reverend Marcel Rooney, O.S.B; her grandchildren Brittany Bruner, Natalie (Bryan) Voithofer, Garrett (Carla) Frazell, Christina Frazell, and Josette Frazell; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Patricia, aka, Grandma, “GG”, “Mommo” was known to many as a sweet, caring and unselfish soul. To her, family was everything. She was a constant prayer-warrior for anyone who requested her prayers. While she was born with many heart defects; one marriage, two babies and open-heart surgery at the age of 24 lead to a full life. She went to St. Gabriel’s grade school and Notre Dame High School in San Francisco, California. On February 9, 1962 when she was working as a bank teller at Hibernia Bank in San Francisco, she met a handsome bank examiner, Paul M. Rooney (later known as Deacon Paul Rooney).

Paul and Patricia were married on January 12, 1963 at St. Gabriel’s in San Francisco. They were married 57 and 3/4 years at the time of Deacon Paul’s death in 2020. Throughout the years, this little family of four lived in San Francisco, California, Springfield, Virginia and Elkhorn, Nebraska. Patricia was an early childhood pre-school teacher for many years with District 66 until 1990, when she retired to be a full-time grandma. She maintained many special strong friendships with her life-long friends, neighbors and caregivers. Patricia will be greatly missed by many, but is surely at peace with her husband now.
