Peter passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 in Papillion, Nebraska at the age of 80 years. He was born Wednesday, January 31, 1940 in Limatola, Italy to Domenico and Maria Anna (Garfano) Mariniello.
Peter graduated from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, receiving a Bachelor's in Food Distribution in February of 1963, attended and graduated from the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio in June 1966, and later received a Master's in Logistics Management.
Peter accomplished these feats through loving parents that sacrificed so much to get him to the United States for a better life, a support network from the grocery store manager that allowed him to work the hours needed to get him through attending high school and college, an elderly family that acted as adoptive parents from the age of 16 into adulthood, a loving wife and children that gave him meaning and fulfillment in his life, and watching his grandchildren grow and develop into loving, caring people.
Peter was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the USAF on May 7, 1962 at Lackland AFB, serving mainly with the Strategic Air Command. He was involved in the Vietnam War with a one-year remote tour in Thailand, and later retired at Offutt Air Force Base on July 1, 1992 as a Colonel.
While doing all of this, Peter raised three kids as moral, ethical, and responsible citizens who made him proud to be a father. Peter also volunteered his time to the Sons of Italy, Saint Vincent DePaul Society, a member of Papillion Lion's Club (where it was his concept to start the spaghetti feed), and Saint Columbkille Church.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents Domenico and Maria Mariniello and brother Joseph Mariniello.
He is survived by his wife Carol (White) Mariniello; children Dominick (Kristi) Mariniello, Mary Ann (John) McGahan, and Robert Mariniello; grandchildren Laura (Seth) Milburn, Megan (Evan) Rose, Nico Mariniello, Wylie (Daniel) Paulson, Peter Mariniello, Lillian Mariniello and Robert Marinello; and siblings Clementina Mariniello and Giovannina Ferraiuolo, both in Italy.
