Richard P. Matukewicz, age 84 years, was born to Polish immigrants, Antone and Mary Matukewicz, in Omaha, Nebraska on January 4, 1933. Rich attended St. Marys Catholic grade school and graduated from Omaha South High School in 1950. Rich proudly served in the U.S. Army on active duty from 1950 -1953, including service in the Korean War, and in the reserves from 1953-1961. Rich worked at Cudahy Meat Packing and Scoco Supply Company, from where he retired in 1999. Rich and Marianne have been members of St. Bernadette Catholic Church since 1964. Rich loved his Catholic faith, his family, and his close friends. He was particularly proud of his Polish-American heritage. He loved to make numerous specialties, including homemade Polish sausage, pierogis, sauerkraut and dumplings, and special Polish bow tie cookies "chruscikis" at Christmas. He loved polka music and dancing the polka. Rich was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3019, American Legion Post 331 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Rich is survived by his wife Marianne;sons and daughters-in-law Martin and Liz, Michael and Sara;grandchildren Ben, Zach, Mason and Allison;brother Paul. Visitation Sunday, March 26th, 3:005:00 p.m. with Vigil Service 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 27th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church (7600 S. 42nd St). Interment Calvary Cemetery. Military honors by American Legion Post 331 Honor Guard. Memorials requested to the family to designate Mass intentions.
