age 72 years, of Papillion, Nebraska. Richard E Nieto Sr. passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 22, 2016 surrounded by his family. Rich was born on August 20, 1943 to parents Frank A. and Mary P. (Townsend) Nieto. He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon K. (Kintzle) Nieto; parents; brothers Bob, Ron, Bruce and Tom Nieto; sisters-in-law Catherine, Joyce and Janet; brother in law Frank Poloncic. Survivors include daughter Theresa (Roger) Nelson; son Richard (Kathy) Nieto Jr; grandchildren Samantha (Josh) Grant, Jordan (Carly) Martinez, MadiJack Nieto, Mike Hall, SydneyAbby Nelson; great grandsons Oliver and Jaron; sister Dee (Gale) Harold; sisters-in-law Linda Nieto, Pat Poloncic, Joy Nieto, Sandra Nieto; numerous other relatives and friends. Rich attended grade school at St Mary's Catholic School in Omaha, Nebraska and high school at Archbishop Ryan High School and Technical High School. He joined the US Navy in 1962 and served in the Vietnam War on the USS Prebble until 1968. He was honorably discharged with the Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Medal.Rich married Sharon Kintzle on May 25, 1963. They had two children Theresa and Richard Jr. Following his time in the service, he worked at General Electric for a few years and then was employed at Union Pacific Railroad for over 20 years, finishing his career with Brenco for more than 10 years. He was a member of the GI Forum, VFW, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and Sokol South Omaha.He enjoyed spending time with family and friends camping, fishing, hunting, boating, gardening and taking vacations. After a liver transplant in 2006, life slowed him down a bit, however, he still enjoyed keeping his family 'on their toes'. His last year was spent at Nebraska Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he was crowned the nurses' "favorite patient". He will be remembered by his family and friends as being a quiet man, however a man who could tell quite the story. He was loved by many. Visitation Sunday, June 26th, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with Prayer Service 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Monday, June 27th, 10:00 a.m. Bethany Funeral Home Chapel. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
