Richard Paul Richt was born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 30th, 1957. A valedictorian of Bryan High School’s class of 1975, Rick was the first in his family to attend college, earning a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. In 1979, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and went on to achieve his Master of Business Administration from the University of Omaha in 1988.
He met Brenda in high school and they married in 1979. Together, they built a life centered around family, hard work, and community. He began his career at Astro Buildings in 1979, dedicating 34 years to the company and retiring as its President in 2013.
Sports were Rick’s passion. He played basketball and baseball in high school. Whether cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers or coaching his kids’ teams in softball, baseball, soccer, and basketball, he found joy in fostering the love of the game. As the President of the LaVista Lancers Soccer Club from 2004 to 2016, Rick helped raise thousands of dollars in scholarships to support graduating seniors in their journey to college.
Rick had a gift for making ordinary moments special. He relished reading the newspaper, playing Skipbo, working out at the gym, watching Wheel of Fortune, and playing Trivial Pursuit (mostly because he would know the answers way before anyone else). He had a dry wit and loved puns, no matter how cheesy, and always brought laughter to those around him. Above all, Rick valued time with his family, making it a priority to attend every school event and spend quality time with his loved ones.
In August 2013, Rick was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia. Despite the challenges that came with his diagnosis, he never lost his warm-hearted nature or the love and admiration of those who cared for him.
Rick died on September 29, 2024, in Omaha, NE with his family by his side. Rick was preceded in death by father Dick and Barbara Richt, and brother Jeff Richt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Brenda Richt; children Hillary (Derick Massey) and Trevor Richt (AnnaBeth); siblings Mike (Dasie), Becky Bolubasz, Russ (Kris), Penney Summers, and Shelly (Mike) Bullis; and many nieces and nephews and other friends and family.
