Russell William Lane
August 3, 1943 — February 24, 2022
Russ was born in Omaha and attended Omaha South High. After high school he followed his dreams of becoming an Omaha Police Officer, then Chief of Police in Loup City, NE and Schuyler, NE. He continued with his passion for serving others as a Resource Officer at Central High School and a Security Guard at Metropolitan Community College until his retirement.
Russ was a proud servant of the public, but his family always came first. His love for family was nearly matched for his love of the Huskers. He was able to light up a room with his sense of humor and endless list of jokes. He had a passion for wildlife, particularly the majestic bald eagle. Sunday rides with his wife were his favorite.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents and son Brad M. Lane
He is survived by his wife Phyllis "Cookie" Lane and children Amy Liddell (Mark), Russell Lane Jr (Robbie), Scott Lane (Katrina), Bryan Lane (Debra), Kori Walker (Jason), Tricia Roebuck (Kelvin), Jennifer Servant (Brian) and Jason Lane (Hollie); Special Family Friends: Mark & Leslie Fey and Family; Siblings Marilyn Gillen (the late Bob), Richard Lane (Margaret) and Robert Lane (Cathy); 31 Grandchildren and 12 Great-grandchildren; And many other cherished family members and friends.
