Ruth M. Geddings is known by several aliases for the countless lives she has touched in during her life.
Ruthie - 54 years of dedication to Napa Auto Parts. She set the bar with her customer service, knowledge, and thousands of parts she purchased to help any family and friends in difficult financial situations. Her account activity resembled many local auto repair companies. Her family had a passion for racing, motorbiking, and classic cars. A dedicated room in her home with shelves and cabinets of supplies on hand. She had minimal requirements for the few cars she owned in her life: transportation to church, work, and the grocery store. When that trunk rusted out and groceries fell out the back, she would consider getting a new car.
Miss Ruth - 40+ years of daycare and bible study over the span of several decades. She had a deep love of babies and impacted thousands of lives of children as a positive role model and disciplinarian using her patented term “hard love pats”. She would let no child go without essential items such as healthy snacks, pencils, paper, or anything educational. She cut many coupons and knew when a sale was a bargain. She reinvested in the kids she took care of.
Ruth’s Catering - She was the family chef with famous recipes; chicken & rice, dumplings, meatballs, grits, butter beans, with special occasion dessert Kahlua Cake. She cooked for an army. The leftovers are sent home with family or friends. She had a brief 10 year career catering weddings, events, and funerals. Founded with her close friends Donna Zimmerman and Donna Bruno they spent many weekends serving families as a hobby and not a job. A family member was given one duty, don’t burn the garlic bread. She fired many family employees from garlic bread duty.
Ruth Margaret - The name we heard by only one person for over 60+ years, her husband Doug. She was an Air Force military spouse of 4 years during the Korean War conflict. The military brought them from South Carolina to Bellevue on assignment at Offutt Air Force Base. They met many friends during their time in service and kept in touch with most of them until their friends passed. Ruth and Doug’s first child was born at the base hospital. A brief move back to South Carolina after active duty, they decided to move back to Omaha and call it home. She loved traveling back to South Carolina for family reunions, Myrtle Beach House, and visiting all her loved ones.
Mom, Grandma, Aunt, Cousin, Friend - She left many family members behind after 91 years and was independent, working, and driving up to a month of her diagnosis with cancer. She had such a kind and forgiving heart and was always doing some chore or on the move. In the last few weeks, when asked what was your influence to have such a compassionate and forgiving heart? She said “It is through the church. Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, you got to believe why you go to church. When I grew up my Mama and Papa were very Religious and dedicated Sunday to the Church and family. It was a day for worship and family only. My family went to my Grandmother and Grandpa’s. Grandma prepared lunch, we ate together, and spent the day as a family.”
We love you and will miss you dearly.
