Shirley Mae Judevine

Shirley Mae Hurt Judevine, age 89 of Omaha, NE passed away on November 13, 2023. Shirley was born in Brainard, Nebraska. She was the youngest child of Joe and Bessie (Kavalak) Hurt. Shirley and her parents moved to Omaha when she was 10 years old so her mother could be treated for breast cancer. Shirley’s family were highly active in the Catholic church, she attended Notre Dame Academy in North Omaha, St. Mary’s High School in Omaha, and left for the convent in Kearney NE after high school. After deciding that the convent was not her calling, she met and married Glenn P. Judevine, on August 20, 1960. This marriage brought an immediate family of three children that Shirley loved as her own, who had lost their own mother, and a new child Glenn P. Judevine Jr. born in March of 1962.

Shirley was an accomplished piano player and played for a couple of her granddaughter’s weddings. Shirley was a nurse’s aide and caregiver to many over the years, she also served as housekeeper for the Priest of St Ann’s Church in Omaha. Shirley loved to attend her grandchildren’s baseball and softball games, she loved her sweets, homemade cookies, and pie, and she loved her kolaches.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Joe and Bessie Hurt, sister Geraldine Dieterle, brother Alden Hurt, and sister Lucille Johnson.

She is survived by children, Glenn (Monica) Judevine Jr, Karen (Dave) Hamling, James (Marie) Judevine, Candace (Raymond) Agosta, fifteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and family friends. Her best confidant and support cat, Kitty Bobby.

Family will receive memorials in lieu of flowers to support local no-kill cats and kittens rescue.
