age 94 years, of Fremont, NEPassed away peacefully at Nye Pointe Health and Rehab Center in Fremont. Retired Fremont farmer and then Valmont Industries after 17 years. Bernie was an active member of the Fremont Salvation Army Church and a former member of the Fremont Kiwanis Club. He delivered Meals-on-Wheels, made over 500 wooden toys for the Salvation Army Joy Shop and spent many hours as a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army Tree of Lights. He also enjoyed gardening and shared his harvest with family and friends. Known as the "Grandpa of the Neighborhood" he fixed bicycles for kids, and worked as a handyman for his neighbors mowing yards and painting.Preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Doris; son Daniel; 6 brothers and 2 sisters.Survived by sons Dennis (Cheryl) Johnson - Plattsmouth, NE, Bruce (Janet) Johnson - Arlington, NE, Terrance (Sharon) Johnson - Bellevue, NE, Randy Johnson - Elkhorn, NE, Marc (Karen) Johnson - Grand Rapids, MI; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; sister Lois Larson - Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephewsVisitation Wednesday, January 7th, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Bethany Funeral Home.
