Where to start when talking about Steven Duane Dugger?
Steve was the son of Jeannette Dugger. He was born on July 14th, 1956 in Omaha, NE. Steve was the youngest of his siblings, David, LuAnn, and Marlin. If you knew Steve, you knew he was a proud South Omaha Boy (SOB). Steve loved representing South High and talked often about his time playing football for the Packers. He graduated from Omaha South in 1975. Unfortunately, Steve lost the love of his life, Debbi Dugger, on April 26th of 2020. They were married for 41 years. They shared many memories together traveling several times a year to Kansas City to see the KC Royals play. It was their thing. They loved going on road trips to visit other baseball fields. Their love was extremely strong. We know that Debbi greeted Steve with open arms when he transitioned to Heaven.
Steve was a family man. Debbi and he shared two children Kristine Marie and Steven Bernard. You would always find Steve talking about his children’s accomplishments. That man would do everything possible for his children. He worked extremely hard to provide for his children, giving them the life he never had. Steve not only was a great father, but he was also a fantastic grandfather. When he heard he was becoming a grandfather, he prepared for the time of his life. It was so important to him to be involved with his grandchildren. Jordin, the oldest granddaughter, and he would spend a lot of quality time together. He would take her to sports signings, using her cuteness to win over the athletes. Then there is Kennedy, he would constantly laugh at her spunk especially when she would cross her eyes at him. Kason, the only grandson, and Steve enjoyed a bond like no other with Kason. The smile on Kason’s face when he saw his grandfather was one in a million. Grandpa Steve would tickle him but wouldn’t let him go. Lastly, Keegan, oh Keegan, Grandpa Steve would shake his head at her. She was the baby of the Dugger grandchildren. A lot of times he would shake his head laughing at the little spitfire that she is. That man loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally.
There is one thing that everyone would say about Steve. That he had the biggest heart to help those. If it was a fundraiser, campaign, standing up for someone, or just being there, it is what he did. No hesitation. He was a good person. Not only was he a good person, but he was also a damn good worker. Before retiring, he worked at Kellogg's for 36 years as a tank man and many years as a Union steward. Many relied upon him to fight the good fight for his coworkers. Again, it’s what he did.
In the last year and a half of his life, he met someone incredibly special, his girlfriend Margo. She brought back the pick-up in his step. The two of them shared a love for traveling, sports, and many laughs. Steve’s children had to check in daily to see what fun things they were doing together. Margo brought so much joy to Steve’s heart. She became a part of their family. Kristine and Steven are truly grateful for Margo making the last years of his life something to remember. Steve proceeded in death by his loving wife, Deborah Dugger; his mother, Jeannette Dugger; and mother-in-law, Fern Scigo.
He is survived by his children Kristine Dugger-Foley (Dave); Steven Dugger (Lisa); his brothers David Dugger (Kathy); Marlin Dugger; and sister LuAnn Dugger; grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many friends.
The community of South Omaha has truly lost an incredible person. Gone way too soon.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Camp CoHoLo in his honor.
