Thomas "Fred" Frederick Pote, the son of Milburn (Bill) and Amy Lorraine (Smith) Pote was born in Glendale, CA on November 17, 1943. His family moved back to Iowa when Fred was very young. His childhood years were spent in Bridge Water Iowa area. The family then moved to Omaha where he attended school and graduated from South High School in 1961.
Fred enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps before being medically discharge. He then worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 36 years, before retiring at the age of 60. Fred married Sandra Grussing on February 14, 2001 in Omaha, NE.
Fred enjoyed golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a San Diego Chargers fan and Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Fred was also a Sunday School Teacher. Fred was a radio announcer while reading to the blind, assisted with Special Olympics and was a Lay Minister at church.
Fred passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, IA, at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Lorraine.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sandra of Spencer, IA; one daughter, Erika (Terry) McCawley of Ralston, NE; 2 grandchildren, Jason (Christina) Anderson of LaVista, NE and Larissa Prokop of Ralston; 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Jessica Anderson; 2 stepdaughters, Michele (Brian) Ganzert of Bristow, Virginia and Tarrel ( Shane) Habben of Spencer, IA;Grandchildren Michael, Elle and Tyler Storeyof Spencer, IA; one brother, his best friend,Wayne (Darlene) Pote of Omaha, NE; sisters, Tammy Pote of Midwest City, OK and Amy Brown of Harrah, OK; many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Those planning to attend the Memorial Service are expected to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing and masks are a requirement for attendance.
