W. "Jack" Porter

April 17, 1954 — June 12, 2018

Jack Porter was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 17, 1954.Born three months premature, he proved to be a fighter and survivor. He was the fifth boy, followed a few years later by his sister, Candis. The family moved to Ralston in June, 1962, and he quickly became friends with schoolmates, Bruce Sebesta, Denny Bergren, and Wally Murphy, his "partners in crime".

Jack was friends with everyone he met, friends he continued to hold near and dear to this day.Jack was fun-loving, the proverbial "life of the party".Anyone who attended the infamous "Porter's Paradise" parties at his childhood home knew it was a guaranteed good time for everyone. He spent the majority of his life in the Omaha area.

Jack was closest to his sister, Candis and they were always there for each other. His bond with family was strong.Although family gatherings were few and far between as the family became adults and started their own families, they were always in touch with one another.Friday night Poker nights became a somewhat regular event for the siblings to get together.

In high school, Jack was involved in Wrestling, following in his brothers' footsteps, and Tennis. He also was on the swim team for many years. He held many jobs, restaurant manager, bartender, employee at Chadron State College, and finally, roofing estimator.Jack was in the business for 27 years, the last 17 at Hometown Roofing. He was well-respected in the roofing industry, providing excellent customer service to his long list of clients and their referrals.

Jack's pride and joy was his daughter Katelyn. His eyes lit up when he spoke of her.Whenever possible, they would spend time together for dinner, movies, concerts or just hanging out.He attended her school functions, including dance, singing, etc.….

He was an avid sports fan, perhaps THE number 1 Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed the Chicago Bears, and Nebraska Husker football.During football season, there was a rotating "game watch" party at his friends' houses.Another passion was his love for everything "John Lennon".He occasionally sang with the band "Skuddur", which started in the early 70's, and even was their "roadie", hauling their equipment to varies cities for gigs. He attended many high school reunions, not just his class, and sang with many members of the Class of '73.

Jack moved back into Ralston in 2015, sharing a home with his partner, Sharon. He was proud to be a "Ralstonite" again and never hesitated to tell everyone he was "back home".He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.Sometime in the near future, have some chicken wings and raise a can of Bud Light in honor of Jack's memory. He's sure to be joining you from above.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Jean Porter; and his niece Liberti J. Casarez. He is survived by his loving partner Sharon Medina; daughter Katelyn M. Porter; brothers Chuck (Nancy) Porter, Craig (Ruth) Porter, Mark (Penny) Porter, and Scott Porter; sister Candis (Bob) Smith; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
