William H. Tiemann passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 in Omaha, Ne. at the age of 77 years. William was born on Friday, October 16, 1942 in Beatrice, NE.
Like many young men, Bill's early goals were to graduate from high school and go on to a successful career. Since Bill wanted to be a physician, he entered the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska Medical College. He married his sweetheart, Gwen, in 1964 while he was still in medical school. They were married for 56 years (by God's grace).
After med school he joined the Air Force and secured his long-time dream of being a flight surgeon. He had many fond memories of his time in the service. Then it was on to more education at the University of Oklahoma Medical School where he completed a residency in Preventative Medicine. When his schooling was finished, he chose to practice medicine at Kansas State University Student Health Center and then start a family medical practice in Manhattan, Kansas. He spent 22 years there.
In 1980, he made the biggest decision to turn his life over to Jesus Christ. Many people have said what a good man he was. He touched many lives with his loving kindness and care as a doctor. His life showed his commitment to the Lord.
His greatest blessing was the time spent with his children (Jeff, Greg, and Blake) and with his 6 grandchildren (Shelby, Ashleigh, Brent, Devon, Kailey, and Madi).
Joys in his later life included neighborhood walks and raking acorns from the big oak tree in his front yard. He shared the Lord in word and deed with his neighbors and spoiled their dogs. Besides being a member of a local church and participating in Precept Bible Studies, he also greatly enjoyed his volunteer work in the Kansas City inner city with Metro Lutheran Ministries (MLM), working with other "old coots," repairing homes and building ramps for the handicapped.
As his life went, he worked until retirement at age 72. He moved several times, first to Omaha, Nebraska, then to Overland Park, Kansas where he practiced Occupational Medicine. He recently planned to return to Omaha to complete his retirement and spend time with his kids. He didn't expect that so soon his last peaceful breaths would be in an Omaha hospital with his family beside him.
He will be missed here on Earth, but he will find plenty to do at his new home with the Lord. (Absent from the Body, present with the Lord. – II Corinthians 5:8)
William was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Alice Tiemann.
He is survived by his loving wife Gwenda L. Tiemann; children Jeff (Melissa), Greg (Valerie) and Blake (Kathy) Tiemann; grandchildren Shelby, Ashleigh, Brent, Devon, Kailey and Madison Tiemann.
